If you’re anything like me, you get a pornographic rush of excitement whenever you walk into a stationery store. So when I finally made it on over to Papier-Stein it was like walking into a Beate Uhse for all things paper and office-supply related.

Two glorious warehouse floors of everything from boxes (matchboxes to moving size), paper stock, those paper bags used at the fruit stands, glassine envelopes, ribbons, tape, labels, notepads and folders, Bierdeckels, you name it, they have it.

I was especially happy to find it because I hate going to the Kaut-Bullinger at Marienplatz. I find them to be overpriced with an exceptionally surly staff. I had opposite experience at Papier-Stein. There were two thoroughly Bavarian ladies, sitting in the middle of the warehouse, joking and yukking it up. When I accidentally selected two box bottoms instead of a top and a bottom, the woman ringing me up cheerily let me know and before I could offer to get the correct item, was off to fetch it for me. Sehr nett.

It’s a bit of a hike, way out on Landsbergerstr, but it’s worth it. From downtown you can pretty much take bike paths the whole way, past the Theresienweise and through Westend.

  1. What a great tip – I have never even heard of this place before and it is truly difficult to find an affordable store for paper products in Munich 🙂 Thank you Eleanor for sharing 🙂
