This won’t be a post providing an exhaustive list of wedding reception venues in Munich, but rather a little write up about where we had ours, at Wirtshaus in der Au. We had it there for a couple of reasons; it has sentimental value in that it is around the corner from where we live and is kind of our ‘neighborhood place’, they have a lovely banquet room upstairs, complete with a classic wood paneled bar and lastly, considering it’s Munich there prices for a large affair are extremely reasonable.

We had about 85 people, and they did a great job. The service was great, the food was fantastic and they were really easy to work with. We bought our own wine (my husband is from the Pfalz) and the corkage fee was pretty modest. It’s also a great place for out of towners. It is definitely Bavarian, but doesn’t have too much of a yode-a-lay-hee-hoo feeling.

The only things to consider are that they book up FAST, but I guess that’s true of most of Munich. You also have to turn the music a little lower at 11:00 p.m. because it’s in the middle of a neighborhood. That was fine with me though, our wedding wrapped up at around 1:00 a.m. and I was tired! I can’t keep up with the Germans that like to party on until 4 a.m. at a wedding.
